New Build: River Tay

PROJECT TYPE: Residential
PROJECT SCOPE: Fishing Hut

Project Summary

This project involves the replacement of an approximately 30-year-old timber fishing hut situated on the banks of the River Tay. The client’s vision was to create a new all-encompassing building that would not only support the fishing activities, but also provide secure boat storage during the winter months.

Given the riverside location and potential risk of flooding, structural and architectural expertise was required to design a building capable of withstanding high water levels. The lower section of the building has been constructed from reinforced concrete and designed to self-drain in the event of flooding, while the upper level features timber frame construction incorporating bathroom and kitchen facilities, alongside a log-burning stove. A wraparound balcony will also showcase the stunning views across the river for visiting anglers to enjoy.

As the site is completely off-grid, all services have been upgraded to suit, including the installation of a new generator with solar panel battery backup and a new water main supply, which required a 600-metre excavation. These works were essential in future-proofing the building, ensuring many more years of fishing can be enjoyed. The project is due for completion in June 2026.
